Former UFC heavyweight Brendan Schaub thinks Conor McGregor should fight Tony Ferguson.

When the ‘Notorious’ returns to action, he has a lot of opponents to choose from. However, he will have to be very selective as the Irish superstar is riding a two-fight losing streak and losing three of his last four.

Former UFC fighter turned podcaster Schaub believes he should fight No. 11 ranked Ferguson.

“If I’m Conor McGregor’s team, the smart route to go is- you got to get a win. So, if my poison is Michael Chandler, Tony Ferguson,  you know, it’s not knock on Tony, but I would say, Chandler beat Tony, so I would go for Tony get a win, and then try to fight Charles Oliveria or fu*king [Islam] Makhachev,” Schaub told The Schmo recently. “Makhachev is a tough fight for Conor, so he has to get a win. Tony Ferguson is probably your best bet out of that bunch. You got to get a win. Michael Chandler is tough, man.”

Schaub thinks Chandler should be McGregor’s second or third fight back because he sees the former Bellator champion as a cash cow.

“I call Michael Chandler the UFC’s cash cow because they wanted him to fight Nate Diaz; they want him to fight Conor because he’s going to be around,” Schaub said. “I thought he’s going to get those big boy fights and then fight the winner of Makhachev vs. Charles Oliveria or whoever wins. He’s not getting Nate, so he might get Connor. We’ll see, man.”

With McGregor most likely not fighting until 2023, the UFC has some time to figure out what they want to do with him. McGregor has said he wants to walk back into a title fight but has also teased fights with Chandler.

One thing is for certain, though, he does not have a lack of potential fights.
