- Police officer Henrique Otávio Oliveira Velozo turns himself in after being identified as suspect for killing jiu-jitsu legend Leandro Lo
- It wasn’t the first time Velozo had run-ins with the law
The suspect surrendered
Brazil police officer Henrique Otávio Oliveira Velozo, the man identified as a suspect for shooting and killing Brazilian jiu-jitsu legend Leandro Lo this past weekend at a concert event in Sao Paolo, Brazil, has decided to turn himself in, MMA Fighting reported, following an initial report by Brazilian outlet G1.
Earlier reports noted that Velozo and Lo engaged in a physical altercation over an argument about a bottle of alcohol at the said event. Velozo then reportedly pulled out a gun and shot Lo in the forehead after they were separated.
Not the first time
On Monday, UOL reported that prior to murdering Lo, Velozo had already been convicted in the past after being found guilty of assaulting a fellow police offer in a night club in 2017. However, he never served prison time.
Lo is a renowned name in the grappling world as he was an eight-time jiu-jitsu world champion. The MMA community is saddened by his untimely death as they have lost a true legend in the sport.
