Former UFC fighter and ONE Championship heavyweight champ Brandon Vera has found a new lease on life in acting. He stars in a new Filipino horror movie and a clip shows how good “The Truth” is in his newfound profession.

Brandon slays zombies

The movie is called, “Day Zero,” a horror film directed by Joey De Guzman. It is Vera’s latest project in the 10-picture deal he signed with a company in the Philippine movie industry.

Day Zero’s first clip was recently released and in it, Vera could be seen killing zombies with what appears to be a high-caliber gun.

Watch the clip below:

Vera plays the role of a former soldier in the movie, who was shocked to have discovered that the world has been plagued by zombies after his release from prison.

“After serving eight incident-free years in prison, a former elite soldier (Vera) is released, finally free to reunite with his estranged wife and young daughter. However, he re-enters civilization only to discover that the outside world has been completely overtaken by a dangerous virus with terrifying effects on the human body. Chased by hordes of the undead, he races through the dangerous urban landscape in a final desperate attempt to redeem himself and rescue his family,” the synopsis read.

Day Zero was released digitally on May 23 and will be out on Blu-ray & DVD on July 11.

A true MMA legend

Prior to acting, Vera enjoyed a celebrated MMA career, having reigned as ONE Championship’s heavyweight king for five years. Vera officially called it a career after being losing to Amir Aliakbari via first-round TKO at ONE 164 in December last year.

Before joining ONE in 2014, Vera fought under the UFC banner where he faced some of the biggest names in the light heavyweight and heavyweight division such as Shogun Rua, Randy Couture, Jon Jones, Frank Mir, and Fabricio Werdum.

Vera retired with a pro MMA record of 16-10-1.
