Bo Nickal believes he would beat Khabib Nurmagomedov in a wrestling match.

The NCAA Division 1 wrestler will make his professional MMA debut this June 3 under Jorge Masvidal’s iKON Fighting Championship. Primarily known as a prominent wrestler, Nickal competed in two MMA bouts as an amateur and won both of them. ‘Gamebred’ has mentioned Nickal’s abilities multiple times in the past based on training together at ATT.

Bo Nickal confident he could beat Khabib

Legendary UFC lightweight Khabib Nurmagomedov retired in October 2020 after successfully defending his belt against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. ‘The Eagle’ is often touted to be the greatest mixed martial artist of all time and is certainly in the discussion at the very least.

Bo Nickal talked to GiveMeSport about what a fight would look like against the Dagestani fighter ahead of his professional debut. Nickal didn’t give Khabib much of a chance against him in a wrestling match.

“To be 100 per cent honest with you, if I were to ever wrestle Khabib, Khabib wouldn’t last more than 30 seconds against me in a wrestling match.”

Nickal believes it’s an unfair comparison

Nickal acknowledged Khabib’s accomplishments and backed him to be one of the greatest, if not the greatest MMA fighter of all time. He believes his specialization in wrestling would favor him over the Sambo practitioner.

“Maybe 60 seconds, tops. I respect the guy, don’t get me wrong, like he’s tough. If he’s not the greatest of all time in MMA, he’s up there. There’s nobody that can have an all-time greats list and not have him on it. I’ve done this my whole life. He’s done sambo his whole life but it’s a different thing.

“It would be the same as asking me if I could stop Cristiano Ronaldo from scoring. That’s kind of my thought process on me wrestling Khabib. Obviously, great at what he’s done, I have so much respect for him, but that’s my world. So he’s not lasting very long.”

Nickal is unlikely to fight Khabib in MMA as he’s been long retired. A potential grappling contest between the pair could make for entertaining viewing with high stakes. Khabib has been focused on his new role as a promoter for Eagle FC.
