Blast to the Past: Remember that time when Rich Franklin was supposed to fight a guy from UFC Iran?

Look, we don’t know if we’re all victims of some elaborate troll job. If we are, kudos to the trickster for pulling one over on us. There’s this guy, let’s just call him the ‘Iranian Dana White’ that has insisted  he’s been running a healthy MMA organization in Iran appropriately called ‘UFC.’ He goes by ‘Ali dehghani sheeva’ and he bravely laughs in the face of intellectual property infringement. Dehgani has been posting on The Underground for years and what was once thought of as some delusional troll job, has a quite a few videos backing it. Back in 2007, Dehgani released a ‘trailer’ of a proposed bout between Rich Franklin and a guy from UFC Iran named Asghar Rashtbarei. Apparently Rashtbarei had a record (at the time) of 10-1 and was also the proud owner of a gold medal from of the 1993 Wrestling CISM.

Of course, the the fight was entirely too absurd to occur — and it didn’t.

What we’ve uncovered is the original fight trailer for the epic middleweight bout that never happened in another edition of ‘Blast to the Past.’ You can check out the ‘official’ UFC Iran site to fulfill all your daily Iranian MMA news needs.
