Blast to the Past: Anderson Silva adds a chunk of highlights to his reel against Forrest Griffin

Forrest Griffin had to take Xanax to help him sleep the night before he fought Anderson Silva at UFC 101. He was nervous, what can you say? If I found out I had to fight Anderson I’d wash down a bottle of Xanax with a little help from Jack Daniels. Going that way would be a lot more peaceful and fun than being picked apart by The Spider. I remember watching this fight in 2009, thinking to myself: ‘Yeah, Forrest can do this.’ The Thales Leites fight was fresh in my mind and like a fool I was caught up in the hype that Anderson ‘didn’t want to engage.’ At that point, to me, Anderson was still mortal. I was a fool. A giant fool. I still am a fool, but in 2009 I feel like I was more foolish than I am today (arguable).

With Anderson/Weidman rapidly approaching, the UFC has decided with their generous hearts that they want to give us some free fights, and one of them happens to be the highlight reel, Anderson/Griffin. I haven’t watched the full fight in at least a year or two, and I have to admit it’s even more impressive in real time.

And this was Forrest’s hilarious recollection of the fight on the Jason Ellis show:

Awesome, awesome, awesome.
