Bjorn Rebney says there’s nothing standing in the way of Eddie Alvarez vs. Gilbert Melendez

Gilbert Melendez vs. Eddie Alvarez is so obviously a fight that should take place, that it’s borderline hilarious that it hasn’t happened yet. It doesn’t take much intuition to realize that at some point in time, Bellator and Strikeforce needs to drop whatever limitations preventing this fight from going down and, in short, take one for the team. That’s such a vague term. Apparently I ‘took one for the team’ when I purchased shots for six people at the EA Sports MMA launch party last night. Correction, my credit card took one for the team. Gilbert Melendez was there and he wanted me to tell everyone that reads MiddleEasy ‘What’s up everyone, thanks for the support’. There, my responsibility of relaying that message is fulfilled.

In an interview with MMAFighting, Bjorn Rebney claims there is nothing holding back Eddie Alvarez taking on the Strikeforce champion — and let’s hope Scott Coker shares the same belief

“There’s nothing in the way of the Gilbert Melendez and Eddie Alvarez fighting. We’re happy to do it on any network. We’re happy to do it in any venue. And we’re happy to do it on any date.”

“I have a lot of respect for [Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker]. He’s a good guy and he puts on great shows. He packs arenas and puts on good cards. But Scott has been saying, ‘Well there’s a lot of issues.’ There really aren’t. If Eddie beats Roger Huerta, the only issues are Scott saying yes.”

If I were a troll posting on the UG, my response to this news would include an attempt at sarcasm and the word ‘douche’ spread throughout. Fortunately, I’m magnanimous towards any attempt at trolling. Just ask OMA. [Source]
