B.J. Penn Says He Wants His Belt Back Prior To UFC 237

B.J. Penn is set to face Clay Guida at UFC 237 this weekend. However, he has his eyes set on a bigger prize.

You can say a lot of things about B.J. Penn. He has had a legendary career, winning UFC gold. More recently, he has been in the news for not so great reasons. However, another thing to be said is that he holds the record for longest streak without a UFC win. Penn has not won a bout since 2010. He retired and returned, only to lose to Yair Rodriguez, Dennis Siver, and Ryan Hall.

That does not stop “The Prodigy” from thinking big, though. Ahead of his UFC 237 bout with Clay Guida, he discusses his aspirations to once again hold a UFC title. He spoke to Aaron Bronsteter at the media day (via Fansided) this week to discuss this goal.

“I stopped thinking about legacy years ago. I fight because I know I will be back, I know I will be back onto the top again. I fight because of what I believe. I believe in myself, I believe in what I will do and that’s why I’m still here fighting today.”

Penn would continue to talk about his belief in himself.

“it’d be crazy for me to think, ‘Okay I’m gonna go get my a– kicked again.’ No, I believe in myself and we’re gonna go and get the belt back.”

Unfortunately, it has been hard for the rest of the MMA world to believe in B.J. Penn lately. Especially, when one considers his refusal to take any question on recent accusations. Crazier things have happened in MMA before.
