Bigfoot Silva says he eats molasses for strength, then says Overeem was created in a laboratory

It’s been a while since we talked about the only fighter that is appropriately named after a giant mythological creature that is always blurry. If you were named ‘Bigfoot’ and you enrolled in a nickname contest and somehow you lost, it was rigged. Being nicknamed after a mythical creature who is forever blurry when captured on camera is the highest honor anyone can bestow on an MMA fighter. If you look really close at Bigfoot Silva’s jaw, you can see an on/off switch that activates the force-field around his chin (he borrowed the technology from Scott Smith). All but five of Bigfoot’s seventeen wins have occurred within the first round and the guy has only four losses in his entire career. Don’t let the name fool you, there’s no reason why Bigfoot Silva should not be ranked in the top five heavyweights out there — and if you think differently, tell him that.

In an recent interview with MMA Junkie, Bigfoot Silva took a verbal jab at Alistair Overeem in hopes (at least we think) of sparking a fight with the former Strikeforce, DREAM, K-1, and linear EliteXC champion.

“Overeem is big and strong, but I know I can beat him. Even if was created in the lab, I can beat him.”

“To me, Overeem is among the best fighters in the world, and I want to always fight the best,” Silva said. “Of course, where I come from – Paraiba, in Brazil – our supplement of choice is molasses, and our strength is our attitude and we will fight whoever, whenever. Let’s see if Overeem can say the same.”

Can we just give Bigfoot Silva the award for the greatest MMA quote of 2012? Last year, he was the proud winner when he stated that he wanted to beat Fedor Emelianenko to show the world that he wasn’t Robocop. Yeah, I don’t understand it either — but your understanding doesn’t negate the fact that it’s still a ridiculously awesome statement.
