Bigfoot Silva’s manager is waging war against elbows in MMA following UFC 146

If a bodega changed their prices every day, you’d get pretty annoyed.  Well, maybe you wouldn’t, but I would.   I’d find another bodega that sells me potato chips and soda at a reasonable price and remain loyal until the price changed.  I’d probably even hang out at the counter and talk about sports and politics with the man behind the counter for three to five minutes after each transaction.  Some people don’t agree that MMA should be run like a local bodega, and that saddens me.  They argue that there are two many rules in MMA; A sport that was founded on the premise that there are “no rules”.  Others would argue that there’s a healthy balance of precautions in place that protect the fighters from serious injuries while allowing them to compete at the highest levels.  My opinion is that too many people are arguing about this.  Everybody wants to keep changing things about MMA when the sport is doing just fine as is.  Enter Bigfoot Silva’s manager with comments like this:

“Just got back to Brazil, was in the air, and only now found out about the uproar my comments on MMAJunkie Radio created, so I would like to clarify: I have seen way worse cuts then the one Cain inflicted on Bigfoot. The problem with this particular cut was not the size or anything, but the profuse bleeding into Bigfoot’s eyes. This is not an excuse, it is a fact. I am not here saying that wasn’t for the cut , Bigfoot would have won, nor I am making an excuse. What I am saying, again, is a fact. Had not been the cut, the fight most probably would have gone on, who knows what the outcome might have been, maybe Cain would have won anyways, maybe not. I also think that elbows on the ground should not be allowed. For the most part, they cause cuts, which are different then Kos, Tkos or Subs. They also tend to make a bloody mess, sometimes from relatively minor damage, and this does not help MMA as it tends to alienate many people to the sport. I didn’t mean in no way to diminish Cain’s victory, or make an excuse for Bigfoot’s defeat, but simply state a fact that myself, and anyone else who watched the fight, witnessed.”

If Bigfoot’s manager ever set foot into my local bodega, we’d make fun of him after he paid for his Snapple Iced Tea and pack of Camel lights.  The bond would only make me fonder of this awesome new Bodega I found in Hell’s Kitchen.  Seriously though, elbows are pretty gruesome, we know that, but so are punches, kicks, and submissions (when you’re Ronda Rousey) – if we ban everything that makes people bleed, this sport would turn into two athletes in peak physical condition sitting in the center of the octagon playing a game of chess while Kim Winslow’s pony tail invades your home in HD, and that’s a world I don’t want to be a part of.
