Ben Askren Reacts To His Submission Loss To Demain Maia.

Ben Askren suffered a second defeat in a row earlier tonight (Sat., Oct. 26, 2019) in the main headliner of UFC Fight Night 162 when welterweight veteran Demain Maia submitted ‘Funky’ via third-round submission from inside Singapore Indoor Stadium in Kallang, Singapore.

Askren last suffered an infamous five-second KO loss to Jorge Masvidal at UFC 239 this past July was hoping to pull a win against Maia. Sadly things went south for ‘Funky’ as Demain Maia’s submission power was too much to handle, and it proved that Brazilian is no doubt is one of the greatest grapplers in MMA history.

“There’s a reason why he’s the best grappler in the division, possibly in MMA history.” @BenAskren reflects after his submission loss at #UFCSingapore

Before his fight at UFC Singapore, Askren stated if he made a poor takedown attempt against Maia, he’ll pay for that, so he actually attempted a bad mistake earlier today.

That was crushing defeat for Askren considering he was planning a win so he can take a meaning fight in 2020. Moreover when he made a UFC debut his first Octagon win was a controversial one against Robbie Lawler. So now ‘funky’ has dropped two in a row.

Askren took to social media and laments ‘bad decision’ which led to a UFC Singapore loss.

“Made a bad decision and I failed. Sorry to everyone who I let down.”

What’s next for Askren is unknown and with two loses in a row he’ll have to work hard to get a meaningful fight in 2020.
