Shots Fired: Ben Askren To Khabib I Will Fight You For The 165-Pound Title In October

Following Khabib Nurmagomedov’s Trash Talk, Askren Fires Back And Challenge ‘Eagle’ For Future Title Fight At 165-Pound

In a recent interview with Submission Radio, reigning UFC lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov took aim at newly acquired welterweight contender Ben Askren who holds a perfect professional record of 18-0 in MMA, said ‘Funky’needs to prove his skills upon his arrival in the UFC. (h/t MMAMania)

“He never fight in the UFC. He has to fight in the UFC first of all. He has to show his levels because I see how someone smash him in ONE FC. Somebody like smashed him in ONE FC. He just signed to the UFC and tried talk, you know.

But now everybody tries to talk and promote these things, but you have to compete in the UFC, then we’re gonna see his levels.”

After hearing Khabib Nurmagomedov’s smack talk, former ONE FC and Bellator welterweight champion fires back and challenge him for a title fight at 165-pound sometime this year in October or November.

“Just heard what @TeamKhabib said, he will find his levels when he can’t get off his back, and I am big brothering him,” wrote Askren via Twitter. “Will fight him@for 165lb title in October/November of this year.”

Khabib (27-0) is coming off a submission win over former two-division champion Conor McGregor at UFC 229 this past October.

Meanwhile, Askren last fought back in November of 2017 when he scores a TKO win over Shinya Aoki under the ONE Championship banner, following a victory ‘Funky’ retired from MMA. Currently, he’s slated to meet former UFC champion Robbie Lawler at UFC 235 this March.

As for Khabib, who he fights next is unknown at the moment but talks of McGregor rematch is making rounds for some time now. Another option is a long-awaited showdown with Tony Ferguson.

When UFC made a trade deal with ONE FC, Askren puts a plethora of fighters on blast and challenges Khabib to fight at 165 pounds to determine who’s the best grappler on the planet. So let’s see how things play out with Khabib as he’s currently scheduled to appear in front of Nevada Athletic Commission for his actions at UFC 229 post-fight brawl on Jan 29.

If Askren is able to maintain his dominance in the UFC one day, he’ll get a chance to meet Khabib.
