Ben Askren Takes Credit For Jorge Masvidal’s Recent Popularity
Jorge Masvidal shocked the world by landing a massive 5 second knockout win over Ben Askren. This flying knee has caused Masvidal’s popularity to skyrocket.
However, if you ask Askren, none of this would have happened without him. The two had a ton of dislike for each other heading into their fight. Not to mention, Askren tends to poke the bear when talking about other fighters. So when Masvidal won like he did, things exploded quickly for the Florida man.
Despite this, in a recent appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, Askren stated his belief that all of Masvidal’s popularity comes from him.
“I will acknowledge that I made him this popular. I brought the best in him, So it’s fine, it’s part of the game. We were the most anticipated fight by far on the biggest card of the year. And it definitely wasn’t because Jorge decided not to show up to two different press events. It was because I made it that way”
Askren does make a good point. There were multiple occasions where he was forced to lead the promotion of their fight. If it was not for how big the fight became, the knockout may not have been so memorable. On the other hand, Masvidal was also riding the high of the three piece and a soda. Nevertheless, Askren thinks its time Masvidal show some appreciation.
“Jorge can say I’m a d–k, or whatever the hell he wants to say about me, but if he wasn’t so rude, he should probably say, ‘Thank you for making me a lot of money,’”
It seems rather unlikely that the feud between Jorge Masvidal and Ben Askren will ever end.
