  • Belal Muhammad thinks Sean Brady is on the same level as any guy in a bar who trains.
  • Muhammad thinks he knows why the UFC matched up Chimaev and Diaz.

Belal Muhammad has been looking for the toughest fights in the division in order to work his way up to a title shot. He has been calling out those above him in the rankings but has not found much success. Now he has found a dance partner for his next outing, Sean Brady. Brady is a tough opponent who is currently undefeated in his professional career at 15-0. Muhammad is training to be the man who takes away his zero. The two will meet on one of the biggest cards of the year, UFC 280 in Abu Dhabi, on Oct. 22.

Belal Muhammad doesn’t see anything special in Sean Brady

Muhammad caught up with The Schmo recently to discuss his upcoming bout along with a few other topics. When asked about his undefeated opponent, Muhammad did not seem impressed.

“Honestly, to me, he’s just a regular fighter. I could go to any bar looking for a juicehead swole guy out there telling them, hey, you want to go train and that’s my Sean Brady. I don’t think there’s anything different that he brings to the game. I think that I’m better at all levels and I’m gonna prove that on October 22,” Muhammad said.

Belal Muhammad’s interest in Khamzat Chimaev was left unanswered

Muhammad had been calling for a fight with rising start Khamzat Chimaev before he was matched with Brady. For a bit it seemed both parties were interested but then seemingly out of nowhere, Chimaev was matched with Nate Diaz. Muhammad feels the UFC chose to go in that direction instead because they are protecting the young star, Chimaev.

“Obviously, the UFC wants to push him they’re trying to build him up because he’s this you know, this “monster, undefeated Russian guy” but like I said, I don’t think that he’s fought the guys that have fought and I think that he was doing all that tough talk on Twitter, but I don’t think that he wanted to fight me,” Muhammad said. “I know that I’m the toughest guy in the division and UFC was like you know, let’s give him a Nate Diaz instead of a Belal Muhammad, you know, we want to build this guy up a little bit more. We saw how tough it was for him to fight a guy like Gilbert Burns and you know Gilbert burns almost broke him and Gilbert Burns almost breaks you and I’m definitely going to break you.”

The UFC welterweight division will be clearing out soon with all these fights coming up, including a championship bout on Aug. 20. If Belal should win his fight, and Chimaev wins his as well, they could finally be matched up next. Muhammad knows he is one of the best in the division, and sitting in the number five spot, he is in a good position to make his title aspirations come true in the near future.
