Belal Muhammad is getting ready to jump into a title shot if needed in March.

Over the last twelve months, UFC welterweight Belal Muhammad has fought his way into the top five of the division. He is now in a great place to be demanding a title shot. The only problem is that the champion Leon Edwards might be tied up, he has been rumored to be facing Kamaru Usman in March.

The UFC announced that they will be heading back to London for a PPV event in March and the idea was for UK fighter Edwards to be the headliner. This bout was not been officially announced yet and that has the rumor mill turning. Usman has been seen wearing a cast on his hand recently and now his availability for March has been called into question. If Usman is unable to fight in London, Muhammad is fully prepared to fill in.

Muhammad’s last win over the undefeated Sean Brady shot him into the number four spot on the rankings list. He wants the title shot and feels that with the uncertainty of Usman, it is the best option to be ready for the call. He explained that he will be expecting the shot in March and has entered a training camp to anticipate it.

“I’m telling myself and I’m putting it out there into the universe that I’m fighting for the belt in March,” he said on The Believe You Me Podcast. “And then the fact that they haven’t announced the Usman fight yet, it tells me that there is something wrong with that. There is, he is not 100% in there, and I don’t care what people say. It’s like, they announced a fight in London, that would be the first fight they announced is Leon Edwards trilogy fight against Usman, but they’re not announcing it for a specific reason.”

Muhammad and Edwards have a history together. They fought back in 2021 and the fight ended with a no-contest following an eye poke. It is because of this that Muhammad feels he is a bigger draw than any other option. He says the UFC would choose to have him take the next title shot over Jorge Masvidal because of Masvidal’s losing streak and he also feels that Edwards would pick to fight him over Khamzat Chimaev because he could see it as an easier matchup.

All these scenarios depend upon the health and status of Usman. Edward wants to fight in London, and could possibly take whoever he is given, Muhammad is preparing for it to be him.
