Before Mike Tyson announced that he would be coming back to boxing, he released a series of teaser videos documenting his training. In the clips, Tyson resembled a quick and powerful version of his old self. It’s one thing to watch Tyson’s videos as he posts them. It’s another to see it live, as Bas Rutten did. In the latest interview with Rutten, he broke down his thoughts about the fight between Tyson and Jones Jr.
Bas Rutten on Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr
Everybody is excited that Mike Tyson is making his return to boxing. The retired boxing heavyweight champion will make his return to the sport in an eight-round exhibition match with fellow legend Roy Jones Jr. It will take place on September 12 in California and will be broadcast on pay-per-view as well as the social media platform Triller. In a recent interview with Submission Radio, Bas Rutten gave his thoughts about the fight.
“He (Mike Tyson) looks great man,” said Rutten. “I was fortunate enough to see him work out a bunch of times.
Rafael Cordeiro and Billy White are with Mike and he looks powerful. They always say you will lose the speed first and the strength, you keep like old man strength. But, I can tell you that he has both.”
Roy Jones Key to Victory
After talking about Tyson, Bas continued to speak about Roy Jones Jr. He detailed the keys to victory for Jones Jr and what he needs to do to find success in the fight.
“Don’t count that guy (Roy Jones Jr) out. He knows who he is going to fight. He’s gotta be that guy like Adesanya now. He’s not gonna fight in there with Tyson, he can’t. He (should) try to pick him (apart) outside and Mike will have to see if he can get him in the corner.
Playing By the Rules
It’ll be remarkably interesting to see what happens when Tyson and Jones Jr finally share the ring. And, if there will be any backlash from the California State Athletic Commission if Tyson were to actually attempt to knock out Roy Jones.
Surely, there’s an agreement in place to make sure that the match happens within the confines of the agreement. On the same note, it’s nearly impossible to take the killer instinct out of the former “baddest man” on the planet. However, if he tries and fails, Roy Jones Jr will be ready to turn an exhibition into a dog fight.
