A featherweight bout between Edson Barboza and Bryce Mitchell is taking place now (Saturday, Mar. 5, 2022) at UFC 272.
Round 1
Barboza opens with some leg kicks. Mitchell is backing him up. Barboza continues to throw kicks. Mitchell is throwing some kicks of his own. Mitchell drops Barboza! Mitchell looks to take him down and secures it with three minutes to work. Mitchell controls for a while and lands some ground strikes. However, Barboza explodes and gets to his feet. Barboza lands some body shots. Barboza just about misses with a spinning back kick to the body. He follows it up with a right that backs Mitchell up. Strong end for Barboza but that round likely goes to Mitchell.
Round 2
Mitchell takes Barboza down early in the round. Mitchell throws strikes while in Barboza’s full guard. Barboza postures up a bit and lands an elbow. Barboza is busted open now. Barboza is seemingly open to being on the ground for now. Mitchell lands another elbow and looks to pass. Barboza does well to scramble and get to his feet. However, Mitchell still has control of his back and drags him down again. Mitchell almost passes to full mount and lands more strikes. Barboza gets him in the half guard but remains controlled and bloodied. Another good round for Mitchell which could even be a 10-8.
Round 3
Barboza connects with a right. He’s showing much more urgency now. Barboza sits Mitchell down while he’s striking but lets him up. Barboza lands a body shot. Mitchell misses with a switch kick. Mitchell shoots with a double and gets Barboza down again. Barboza threatens with a triangle but Mitchell gets out of danger pretty quickly. Barboza is trying to scramble again but has no energy. Mitchell passes to full mount and continues to land more strikes. Barboza defends and gets to half guard but remains on the ground until the end of the fight.
Official Result: Bryce Mitchell defeats Edson Barboza via unanimous decision (30-25, 30-26, 30-27).
