Maycee Barber Believes Shes Ready For Title Contention

UFC Flyweight Maycee Barber is still keen on her goal of becoming the youngest UFC champion ever. Although it’s a tall task, Barber believes each fight gets her one step closer to her dream. Plotting her every move, she recently expressed that she would be ready for a title fight. Not only does Maycee believe she could contend for titles right now, she believes she can win them.

Barber still has around two years to accomplish being the youngest champion ever. For now, she meets Gillian Robertson tomorrow night at UFC Boston. Speaking to the media, Maycee revealed her self belief in being able to beat Flyweight champion, Valentina Shevchenko.

Speaking to the Media

As dominant as champion Valentina Shevchenko has been, Barber believes she could beat her. Speaking to the media, she admitted to the belief of her skillset.

“Technically, I believe if I was offered the fight with Valentina tomorrow I’d go in there and I truly believe I could win that fight,” said Barber. “And, I could do everything to go out there and to win that fight. I believe it would be a fight and I believe that I would win that title, but why do it right now? Why not take the next couple years and not just go out there and fight her, but go out there and dominate her.”

Not only does Maycee believe in her ability to beat Valentina, but she also hasn’t ruled out moving back to strawweight. The division where she believes champion Zhang Weili is an even easier matchup than Valentina.

“That’s the one I believe I could take right now. I could go in and just dominate that fight,” said Maycee in reference to Zhang. “(The fight with) Valentina could be back-and-forth and I believe I could take that title still, but I would rather have it be a beatdown than a back-and-forth brawl.”

Getting A Title Shot

Maycee is hell-bent on getting her title shot, no matter the division. But first, she has to be able to get past Gillian Robertson if she wants to stay on pace. If she manages to get the win on Friday, expect Barber to put the flyweight division on notice. Expect her to call out a high ranked opponent that will get her a step closer to UFC gold.
