  • The Western Australia Combat Sport Commission revealed that there’s no concrete evidence that shows Islam Makhachev used IV at UFC 284
  • The commission encourages people with further knowledge about the matter to reach out to them

What appeared to be just a bold comment from a former opponent grew into a serious matter. That has been the case with Dan Hooker’s claim that Islam Makhachev cheated through the use of IV at UFC 284.

After the issue gained traction, the Western Australia Combat Sports Commission got to the bottom of it and declared there’s no evidence that confirms that Makhachev used IV in any way. However, the commission wants anybody with legitimate knowledge about the matter to come out.

Islam is clear…for now

In a recent interview, Western Australia Combat Sports Commission Chair Bob Kucera said that at this point, there is no official complaint about or related to Hooker’s accusations on Makhachev. On the other hand, they will be taking part in addressing the issue by being open to hearing out “anyone with any relevant information” about the matter.

“The Commission has no conclusive evidence that any athlete at the UFC 284 event held at RAC Arena has breached WADA or the commission’s policies,” Western Australia Combat Sport Commission Chair Bob Kucera said. “The Commission has not received a complaint relating to any athlete at the UFC 284 event held at RAC Arena. The Commission invites anyone with any relevant information to contact us.”

Someone should be punished

Shortly after Hooker alleged Makhachev of using IV at UFC 284, the lightweight champion’s co-manager blatantly dismissed it and called “The Hangman” a clout-chasing “loser.” Makhachev, meanwhile, insists that he has never cheated in his entire career and now calls for the accusers to be reprimanded for their irresponsible comments.

Essentially, IV is being used by athletes to significantly help them in recuperating after drastic weight-cutting heading into a fight. However, IV has been banned in the UFC for years.

Makhachev beat Alexander Volkanovski in their historic pound-for-pound title fight at UFC 284. Hooker, on the other hand, is Volk’s City Kickboxing teammate who also lost to Makhachev in the past.
