Top lightweight contender Arman Tsarukyan says his return to the octagon is already being arranged. Even though some people believe he may have problems with the UFC, the fighter says that is not the case.

Last year Tsarukyan was expected to challenge Islam Makhachev for the lightweight title at UFC 311. The matchup never happened because Tsarukyan suffered an injury shortly before the event and had to withdraw from the card.

The sudden change created tension and reports that the UFC was unhappy with the situation. Since then, Tsarukyan has also been involved in a few incidents outside the cage that brought criticism.

During ceremonial weigh ins for a UFC event in Qatar he headbutted Dan Hooker. More recently he had a confrontation with Georgio Poullas after their wrestling match at RAF 7.

Despite those moments, Tsarukyan says his relationship with the organization is still fine.

“I don’t know why Dana speaks ill of me, but I have no problem with them, or any behind-the-scenes issues,” Tsarukyan said after competing against Muhammad Mokaev in a grappling match at Hype Brazil.

Talks With UFC Matchmakers Continue

Tsarukyan explained that his discussions about fights are mainly handled by the UFC matchmakers rather than the company president.

“… There’s no point in addressing [Dana White], because I don’t negotiate with him. I am in talks with Hunter [Campbell], because he’s in charge of matchmaking. Dana probably just approves everything related to fights. But the actual matchmakers are Sean Shelby, Hunter, so I’ve got nothing to say to Dana.”

Because he has not been scheduled for a title fight recently, Tsarukyan has stayed active in other competitions such as grappling and wrestling matches.

However, the 29 year old says he still wants to return to the UFC cage soon.

“I need to ask Hunter for a fight,” Tsarukyan said. “We talked this morning and he gave me a date for my next fight.”

Waiting for Another Title Opportunity

Tsarukyan currently holds a five fight winning streak in the UFC lightweight division. Many observers believe he deserves a chance to fight for the championship.

Right now the belt belongs to Ilia Topuria. The champion is expected to defend his title against Justin Gaethje at the upcoming UFC White House card.

Tsarukyan even joked about how that situation could change if something unexpected happens.

“I would recommend him to get injured during his camp and let me step up and get the title,” Tsarukyan said. “After that, he can fight me.”

For now Tsarukyan continues training and waiting for the official announcement of his next fight date. With his recent winning streak and strong performances, he remains one of the top contenders in the lightweight division.
