Aoki/Alvarez II is possibly going down early next year

The first time I saw Eddie Alvarez fighting, he was 8-0 and fighting on Bodog Fight’s Costa Rica Combat. Totally bizarre set-up but I also managed to catch Roy Nelson, Rosi Sexton, Jake Ellenberger, Chael Sonnen, Jake Shields and Brad Pickett on Bodog Fights so totally worth it. Then again, it would have been worth it anyway to see a ring on a beach that wasn’t Koh Samui. Nonetheless, this was the first time I watched Eddie Alvarez fight and I was blown away. I immediately loved the guy. I started watching Bellator because he was fighting, same with DREAM. I’m not going to pretend I’ve been following MMA since the NHB days like a lot of guys do. I started following MMA because of Eddie Alvarez.

You can only imagine how I felt when Shinya Aoki heel hooked his way to victory over my boy Eddie on that fateful New Years Eve. I can now relate directly to how Gary LaPlante felt when Shogun lost to Jon Jones. Since then, Aoki has gone 9-2 while Eddie is 7-0 and I have been praying to the Norse gods for a rematch. Maybe they have a big line of fight requests to get through or something but it seems like they eventually got to my request. Tony Loiseleur over at Sherdog is reporting that the guys at Bellator are targeting a non-title bout for early 2012. Outside of my obvious man-crush on Alvarez, I can’t see how this fight won’t be exciting. Predictions on a postcard to the usual address folks.
