Anthony Wint just turned Dana White’s Contender Series into a one-man collision drill. The former New York Jets linebacker smashed Matthew Adams in 34 seconds at DWCS Week 1, grabbed a UFC contract, and gave the heavyweight division another fresh problem with shoulders like a defensive end.
The official result was quick and ugly in the best fight-night way. Wint beat Adams by TKO from strikes at 0:34 of Round 1, moving to 7-0 while Adams fell to 6-3. UFC’s own clip showed exactly why the matchmakers did not need a long committee meeting on this one.

Wint did not even pretend he was settling in for a chess match. After the win, he told Laura Sanko, “They don’t pay me by the hour,” which is a pretty clean summary of his current career arc. His last three fights have all ended by stoppage inside 40 seconds, so yes, the sample size is getting loud.
Wint Turned Football Violence Into Heavyweight Chaos
The football-to-fighting crossover angle is doing real work here, but this was not some celebrity-crossover circus. Wint signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent in 2018, appeared in two regular-season games, later had a CFL stop with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and started building his MMA run in 2021. That is a long way from an NFL camp body to a UFC contract on Contender Series.
He explained the transition in very linebacker terms, saying, “I played football my whole life. Not only football, linebacker. So I was used to lining up against 11 people, having 11 people against me and then dissecting a whole play in 40 seconds. Now I just gotta dissect a man in three rounds.” In this case, he did not need three rounds. He barely needed half a minute.
Dana White was sold after the finish and did not dress it up like a boardroom evaluation. “Anthony, you’re a f*cking tank, my friend,” White said during the contract announcements. “I didn’t get to see much, but what I got to see was pretty nasty. And I have a long history with your coach, who has nothing but good things to say about you. Welcome to the UFC.”

White also floated a quick turnaround for Wint, with UFC Fight Night 285 in Sacramento on Aug. 22 already on the radar. That would be a nasty pace for a brand-new heavyweight signing, but Wint has been pushing for another fight immediately, and White usually loves that kind of controlled madness.
Wint was one of four fighters to leave Week 1 with a deal, joining Joseph Kropschot, Thomas Pagliarulo, and Bilal Hasan. The UFC heavyweight lane is never short on chaos, and a 5-foot-11, 234-pound former linebacker with three straight sub-40-second stoppages is the kind of heavyweight wrinkle that makes matchmakers start looking for either a test or a victim.

There are levels to this game, and Wint still has to prove his power survives against deeper UFC heavyweights. But for one Tuesday night in Las Vegas, he did exactly what Contender Series fighters are supposed to do. He made Dana White look up, made the broadcast booth wake up, and made 34 seconds feel like enough time to change his whole career.
