Anthony Smith Shares Hand X-Ray Following UFC Stockholm
Anthony Smith was victorious in his main event bout last weekend, in Stockholm. However, the win came at a cost.
Although Smith submitted Alexander Gustafsson in the fourth round, most of the bout took place on the feet. It was not until a grappling exchange, following a takedown, that Smith took Gus’s back. Here, he worked patiently until securing the rear naked choke.
Smith was already an underdog going into the fight. However, when he broke his hand in the second, the struggle got worse. It was Monday before the extent of the injury was fully realized. “Lionheart” sent a picture of an x-ray of his hand to ESPN’s Ariel Helwani. Helwani subsequently uploaded the photo to Twitter.
This is an X-Ray of Anthony Smith’s broken left hand. Just took it and sent it to me. His surgery is scheduled for Wednesday. He believes he broke it in the second round. pic.twitter.com/F63Qa7qoFV

This news comes at a relatively good time for Smith. He has been very active as of late, and could likely use the time off. His UFC Stockholm victory comes three short months after a decisive championship loss to Jon Jones. Before that, Smith was on a six-fight win streak.
Anthony Smith reaffirmed his place as a top contender in the Light Heavyweight division with this win over Gustafsson. Unfortunately, that means very little currently, as his loss to Jones was so one-sided. Additionally, there are tons of new faces pouring into the division. Either way, it was an impressive victory for Smith.
