  • Anthony Smith said he understood Nate Diaz because it’s only right to choke somebody out if he is considered a threat
  • “Lionheart” thinks UFC fighters are likely to get in trouble whenever they are out clubbing or in the streets

Anthony Smith didn’t need to hear more about the recent street fight Nate Diaz had been involved with in New Orleans to understand why the UFC legend choked the guy to sleep. For “Lionheart,” it’s a basic instinct to hurt a potential threat before it hurts you.

Fighters fight

Discussing the subject on Bisping & Smith’s BYM podcast, Smith said he would’ve done exactly what Diaz did to the Logan Paul lookalike if he ever got stuck in a dangerous situation like that.

“I’m happy that there wasn’t a video of a UFC fighter beating the sh*t out of someone on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, that’s a bad look for the sport but I mean what do you do? Like, I don’t know what started that altercation but if you got someone coming at you [like that], I’d probably choke him too,” Smith commented.

No clubbing, no fights

Smith went on and explained that as UFC fighters, they are prone to street fights. With that in mind, “Lionheart” opts not to go to bars and clubs to prevent such things from happening.

“That’s why I try not to like… I don’t go to like really bars or clubs or anything like that because I know me and if someone starts coming at me, you can take it. Doesn’t matter how successful I’ve been, where I work, how many ESPN broadcasts I’m on, if someone comes at me like that in like a physical altercation, I’m fighting. I’m not going to think ahead and say, ‘Oh well, how’s this going to look when it gets posted on Twitter,’ I’m just gonna start fighting,” he added.

Rodney Petersen, the guy Diaz choked out, revealed a seemingly gruesome head injury he incurred after his head hit the concrete. Petersen swore to get his revenge on the UFC legend once they meet again in New Orleans.

As it stands, Diaz has now been issued an arrest warrant for possible second-degree battery. The news broke in the wake of the brawl in New Orleans which reportedly stemmed from an altercation with reality TV star named Chase DeMoor on April 21.
