Anthony Johnson Plans To Return For The Heavyweight Fight Versus Jon Jones

Ali Abdelaziz: “Anthony Johnson Says He Will Come Back To Fight Someone Like Jon Jones”

Anthony Johnson is known as one of the rare fighters who fought in four weight classes during his career. He was also “the master” of unsuccessful weight cuts. You probably remember his famous weigh-in miss at UFC 142, when he weighed nearly 200 pounds for the UFC Middleweight fight. He retired in April 2017, leaving MMA community shocked. Since then, Johnson puts his efforts in bodybuilding. He has also started his own job with marijuana. Yet, it looks like “Rumble” thinks about potential UFC return!

According to Ali Abdelaziz, Anthony Johnson targets a Heavyweight showdown versus Jon Jones in the future! But some things need to happen in the first place. (via BJPenn.com)

“I talked to “Rumble” last week, right? He said if Jon Jones fought DC (Daniel Cormier) as a Heavyweight, and if Jon wins, he wants to come back and this is the only fight he thinks he’d come back to fight, Jon Jones.

Anthony Johnson is 285-pounds (right now). He wants to come back as a Heavyweight. But I think it (will) have to be something different. He can’t just come back, he misses the sport and says he will come back to fight someone like Jon Jones.

He’s just having fun (with the bodybuilding), he’s been in the sport for a long time, he’s resting his body, he’s having fun. He will fight again for sure. For sure, 100 percent.”

Let’s remember, Anthony Johnson and Jon Jones were already set for UFC Light Heavyweight title match at UFC 187 on May 23, 2015. But “Bones” was stripped of the title due to a hit-and-run incident.

Anthony Johnson (22-6 MMA, 13-6 UFC) defeated Ryan Bader at UFC On Fox 18 at January 30, 2016. Then he came up with another victory at UFC 202 on August 20, 2016, versus Glover Teixeira, via KO. In his last match, he was defeated to Daniel Cormier at UFC 210 on April 8, 2017, via rear-naked choke.

On the other side, “Bones” was suspended after positive tests on Turinabol following his UFC 214 fight versus Daniel Cormier. Yet, Jon Jones (22-1, 1 NC MMA, 16-1, 1 NC UFC) was lucky and slipped through with a 15-month sentence. He will fight Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 232 on December 29, 2018, for the UFC Light Heavyweight title.

Jon Jones has never fought in UFC Heavyweight division. Anthony Johnson is a lot stronger than ever before. Do you think “Bones” could be defeated if this fight ever happens? Don’t forget that these two have already had an epic staredown in September this year!
