Former UFC Fighter Angela Magana In Coma

Former UFC Strawweight Angela Magana is reportedly in a coma. This is following complications from a surgery preformed Tuesday.

According to a Twitter post from Magana’s account by her management, Magana was unable to be woken after the surgery. She is currently at University Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

“Message from Coaching Staff there have complications and they can not wake her up. They are trying many options we will keep you up to date. Thank you for the out pouring of concern and love #🙏

According to MMAJunkie, Magana was experiencing back pains while training for her upcoming April 26th bout with Kyra Batara. Gabriel Lamastus, her manager, told MMAJunkie that Magana suffered a herniated disc during a takedown. This prompted a nerve block to be preformed to alleviate the pain. Magana did not react well to the procedure, being diagnosed with a compression on the spinal cord roots. This resulted in an emergency surgery.

Angela Magana posted a video to her Twitter, where she discussed concerns. Magna’s grandmother died due to an allergic reaction to anesthesia, and this was her first time being put under. She expressed concerns that she would not wake back up.

“I feel like i’m not going to not wake up and die after this”

Magana was set to face Batara at Combate 35: Reinas on April 26th. She went 0-3 in the UFC, and her last performance was a loss at Rizin 12.

At the time of this writing, there have still been no changes in the condition of Angela Magana. She is still in a coma, and it has been over 24 hours.

MiddleEasy wishes Angela Magana a speedy recovery.
