Anderson Silva wants to fight as a HEAVYWEIGHT!

Let me brush the dust off of the ‘Are you serious? Wtf?‘ section of MiddleEasy. It’s been a little empty since the Chuck Liddell joining Dancing with the Stars story a few days ago. There, that should do it.

Alright, now what’s the last thing you thought you would hear today? Kelly Osborne being relevant once again? I’m sorry, I don’t think that’s ever going to happen. If you said Anderson Silva moving to UFCs heavyweight ranks then you would be absolutely correct. Josh Gross with Sports Illustrated has confirmed that even before the Forrest Griffin fight, Anderson Silva asked ZUFFA whether he could fight as heavyweight in his next bout. Why? Well because Anderson Silva is…Anderson Silva. Not only that, but he wants the big heavyweight payouts too:

Prior to Silva’s flooring Forrest Griffin earlier this month in Philadelphia, SI.com confirmed that Silva’s representatives had spoken with Zuffa about the heralded UFC middleweight champion moving up to heavyweight for the first time in his career.

Not only that, they already had an opponent in mind: Frank Mir.

Disinterested by middleweight contenders Nathan Marquardt, Demian Maia and Dan Henderson, and unwilling to fight close friend Lyoto Machida at light heavyweight — where Silva could conceivably knock off challengers and make a disaster out of the UFC’s marquee division — “The Spider” needs new, challenging scenarios to stay motivated. A move to heavyweight would certainly achieve that, and according to Silva’s manager Ed Soares, the UFC was receptive to the idea.

OK now everyone close their eyes and imagine if Fedor would have signed with UFC. Yeah, we could have seen Fedor Emelianenko vs. Anderson Silva which have been so rawesome it probably would have put a dent in the space/time continuum or something equally as cool (and scary). [Source]
