Former Longtime UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva Reacts To Jon Jones And Conor Mcgregor’s Troubles
Last week it was announced, that Anderson Silva will be eligible to return to Octagon later this year, after settling his issues with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA).
Silva was sitting on the shelf since last November due to of failed drug test, where he tested positive for metabolites of methyltestosterone and hydrochlorothiazide following an out-of-competition urine test conducted Oct. 26, 2017. After a thorough review, USADA has determined the cause of the failed test was a contaminated dietary supplement.
Silva arguably the greatest fighter of all time is happy to continue his legacy after resolving his issues, which marked the second one-year suspension of his career.
As Silva is back in headlines, ‘The Spider’ also discussed the light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former two-division champion Conor Mcgregor’s outside-the-cage troubles in a recent interview with MMAFighting.
As its well known now that Jones is currently under the USADA umbrella facing a lengthy suspension. Silva is a good friend of Jones believing that we should all stand down and show some respect to him for all the success he achieved despite his troubles.
”I’m his close friend [of Jones], I have a big affection for him, I see him as a younger brother, and I hope this moment he’s going through is a moment of reflection,” Silva told MMA Fighting. “He’s young and has everything it takes to come back and reclaim what’s his. I’m rooting for him, as always. He’s an amazing guy, a guy that has been through several difficulties, several problems, and deserves our respect.”
Silva also discussed Mcgregor who’s also dealing with legal issues following his infamous bus rampage in Brooklyn back in April. ‘The Spider’ said a fighter like him who worked hard to make the combat sports a viable entertainment option for people of all ages. Silva said, hope Notorious might learn something after his recent antics and don’t jeopardize his image by repeating such things.
”Man, I think that not only me but other athletes that worked really hard to turn this sport into a sport to be watched by kids, ladies, women, men, people from all ages and social classes,” Silva said, “And it’s complicated when this kind of thing happens, but who am I to judge? It’s something that must come from each person.
”Athletes have to have this conscience. Everybody has problems, everybody goes through situations, and I hope he realizes how much he means to many people and doesn’t do something like that again and ends up tarnishing a bit of what we worked for this sport.”
As of now things seems hazy for Jon Jones and his future in MMA depends if he resolves his issues with USADA.
For Mcgregor, we will find out more on July 26 which is his next court date, as he filed a plea deal to avoid jail time.
