Amanda Nunes has announced that her return to competition will include an ambitious goal: capturing a third UFC title. After her scheduled fight with Kayla Harrison, Nunes plans to drop to 125 pounds to challenge for the flyweight championship. This move could make her the first female fighter in UFC history to hold belts in three divisions.
She has already undergone two drug tests this year, indicating her progression toward stepping back into the octagon. While Harrison represents the immediate challenge, the flyweight division presents an opportunity to cement her legacy as one of the sport’s all-time greats.
Eyeing Valentina Shevchenko
Valentina Shevchenko recently claimed a decisive victory over Zhang Weili at UFC 322. Despite “Bullet’s” impressive win, Nunes has her sights set on facing Shevchenko at flyweight, aiming to extend her dominance across multiple divisions.
“After I beat Kayla Harrison I’m going to go down to 125 and take this belt for collection, too,” Nunes said on Instagram, signaling her intent to make history.

Competing at flyweight will be a new experience for Nunes. She has never fought at 125 pounds and has previously commented on the difficulty of cutting weight. Still, the chance to make history and become the first three-division UFC champion is a strong motivation.
Harrison, an Olympic judo gold medalist, will be the first step. The fight does not yet have an official date, but an announcement is expected soon, likely after the UFC’s move to Paramount/CBS in early 2026.
For Nunes, this plan is about more than titles. By pursuing the flyweight belt after reclaiming her bantamweight supremacy, she seeks to solidify her status among the greatest female fighters in MMA history. A successful campaign in three divisions would highlight her skill, adaptability, and dominance across weight classes.
