Amanda Nunes To Defend Her Title Against Raquel Pennington At UFC 224

Amanda Nunes, a UFC women’s bantamweight champion will set to defend her title against Raquel Pennington at UFC 224. The bout was first reported by Combate earlier this month and recently confirmed by MMA Fighting.

Nunes had been campaigning for the super fight against current featherweight champion Cris Cyborg. However, after Cyborg agreed to save the main event of UFC 222, the UFC booked Nunes against Pennington.

Amanda Nunes has successfully defended her title twice, dismantling Ronda Rousey at UFC 207 and then winning a somewhat controversial split decision against Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 215. She’s won her last six fights dating back to 2015.

Pennington, a veteran of Season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter, has not fought since earning a decision over former champion Miesha Tate at UFC 205 back in November 2016. This pushed her winning streak to four straight. She missed much of 2017 due to shoulder surgery, then in October, she broke her leg while on a hunting trip.

UFC 224 is set to take place in Rio de Janeiro on May 12th. Brazilian legends Vitor Belfort vs. Lyoto Machida and Ronaldo Souza vs.Kelvin Gastelum also book under this card.
