Aljamain Sterling has taken Raul Rosas Jr. under his wing following his loss.

The UFC bantamweight division is filled with talented fighters all looking for their way to the top. Sitting at that peak is champion Aljamain Sterling. Sterling is used to being called out by all the other bantamweights and fights with a  target on his back. He was recently called out by 18-year-old UFC newcomer Raul Rosas Jr.

Rosas Jr. made headlines as the youngest fighter to ever sign a UFC contract and get a win in the Octagon. He had big dreams coming into his UFC career and the expectations for him were high as many people such as Dana White were singing his praises. He even laid claim that he could defeat the champ right now. Unfortunately for Rosas Jr, he was handed his first loss at UFC 287. He was defeated by a unanimous decision by Christian Rodriguez.

Following the loss, Rosas Jr. has received some advice for the upper echelon of the divisions. Contender Sean O’Malley advised him to take a few years off to master the sport and return more seasoned. On the flip side, Sterling invited Rosas Jr. to train with him and has taken him under his wing. He posted a video to YouTube showing them on the mat together and giving his assessment of the young fighter.

“He saw my tweet, hit me up about it, and then the very next day, I told him what time we were training and we’re gonna get our workout and he showed up. And I think that shows a lot of promise and shows some humbleness within him, that he can be coachable, and that he is willing to grow and willing to learn from other people,” he said. “I thought that was pretty cool. And he picked up everything we were doing… I’m looking forward to seeing his development and for his next fight.

Rosas Jr. seemed appreciative in the video. He went on to explain that he will join Sterling in training when he is in Las Vegas. He is looking to improve and learning from the champ seems to be the best way to do it. Sterling has put the beef between them to rest and focuses on helping a young fighter get better.
