Alexander Gustafsson Offers A Stern Warning To Luke Rockhold About Moving Up

Before his loss to Yoel Romero, at last, Saturday night’s (Feb. 10, 2018) UFC 221, Luke Rockhold, a former middleweight champion also reaffirmed his intention to move up to light heavyweight, saying that Daniel Cormier’s move to heavyweight meant his own change of weight classes was imminent.

Alexander Gustafsson, a two-time UFC’s light heavyweight title contender, challenged the former middleweight champion to a fight in an Instagram post-Tuesday.

“Luke Rockhold, your teammate is holding my division hostage and you think there are only easy fights at light heavyweight? If you think [Yoel] Romero hits hard, then wait till you come to the big boys. I want Daniel Cormier, and knocking you out will keep me warm in the meantime. Beware of coming up in weight because I will be standing at the front door waiting.”— Alexander Gustafsson via his official Instagram.

Alexander Gustafsson has not fought since he knocked out Glover Teixeira at UFC Fight Night 109 in May and is sidelined due to a shoulder injury that required surgery in November. An exact timetable for his return to Octagon is unknown at this time.

That win gave him two victories in a row and put him in contention for his third light heavyweight title shot, against DC but Daniel Cormier is matched-up with Stipe Miocic for the heavyweight title at UFC 226 in July. So the next best option Gustafsson mentioned, to welcoming Luke Rockhold, a teammate of Cormier, to the division.

Daniel Cormier had said he’d come back for a rematch with him even after his brawl with Stipe Miocic before he hangs his glove from the sport by March 2019. That’s the fight Alexander wanted but seemed more than willing to pass the time by with a huge potential fight against Luke Rockhold.

Anyone down to see Alexander Gustafsson vs. Luke Rockhold at 205-pound?
