Alex Volkanovski shared an X-ray of his broken hand.

This past weekend, reigning UFC featherweight champion Alex Volkanovski took on Max Holloway at UFC 276. The co-main event of the night proved to be a high-level display between two of the most skilled active fighters. Volkanovski put on a dominating performance against his longtime rival to come out on top by a unanimous decision.

Before his decisive and final third win over “Blessed”, Volkanovski forecasted that he would suffer a broken hand. His words came true during the fight as he endured a wrenched thumb during the contest.

“The Great” took to his Instagram to share a photo of an x-ray reflecting the injury in his hand.

“Broke my thumb in the second round, but that don’t stop us! Having surgery today and will be out for 12 weeks. Looking forward to getting back out there, thanks to everyone for the support”

Volkanovski will undergo surgery for the injury and will be out of competition for 12 weeks.

“The Great” wants to move up

Volkanovski has proven to be a dominant champion at 145 lbs with successful titles defenses over opponents like Holloway, Chan Sung “The Korean Zombie” Jung, and Brian Ortega. He expressed his intentions to move up a weight class to lightweight and challenge the champion in a bid to gain double champ status.

Charles Oliveira is expected to compete for the vacant 155 lbs title but it’s unlikely it’ll be against the Australian. “do Bronx” has made it clear that he wants to fight Conor McGregor to secure a big payday and there’s also Islam Makhachev circling around the gold ready to challenge the Brazilian.

“The Great” may be out for the rest of the year. It’s unclear who he should face next in a division he’s already beat the top guys.
