Alex Pereira may not be part of the UFC’s most talked-about event of 2026 after all.
Despite weeks of public discussion linking the reigning UFC light heavyweight champion to the upcoming White House fight card, Pereira shared a message that suggests he no longer expects to compete on that stage. The event, tentatively scheduled for June 14, is being organized as part of national celebrations marking America’s 250th anniversary.
On Monday, Pereira posted a photo alongside UFC president Dana White and added a short caption that immediately caught attention.
“Looks like the White House is a NO GO!!!”
No further explanation accompanied the message, leaving fans and analysts to speculate about what changed.
Momentum Meets Reality
In recent months, Pereira openly expressed interest in appearing on the White House card, with a potential high-profile matchup against Jon Jones often mentioned in conversation. Jones himself has voiced interest in competing at the historic venue, even hinting at a return after briefly stepping away from the sport.
However, UFC leadership has consistently emphasized that official matchmaking for the event will not begin until early 2026. Dana White has also acknowledged hesitation about committing certain fighters to an event of that magnitude, particularly when reliability and timing are critical.
Jon Jones Factor Remains Complicated
Jones previously walked away from negotiations involving interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall before later reversing course and signaling a desire to fight again. While Jones has spoken publicly about the appeal of facing Pereira, those comments have not translated into confirmed plans.
White has noted in the past that booking Jones for a cornerstone event carries added risk due to past disruptions that affected scheduled bouts.
Pereira’s apparent exclusion may point toward alternative plans earlier in the year. The Brazilian regained the light heavyweight title in October with a decisive stoppage of Magomed Ankalaev, reclaiming the belt seven months after losing it.
Speculation has also grown around a possible title defense against rising contender Carlos Ulberg, who has built momentum with victories over names such as Jan Blachowicz, Dominick Reyes, and Volkan Oezdemir. Ulberg’s continued climb could place him in line for a championship opportunity well before June.
If that matchup moves forward, it would explain why Pereira no longer expects to be available for the White House card.
With official matchmaking still months away, Pereira’s future remains fluid. Whether his message reflects inside knowledge or personal assumption is unclear. What is certain is that one of the UFC’s biggest stars no longer sounds confident about appearing on the promotion’s most symbolic stage.
For now, the White House card remains a vision rather than a finalized lineup — and Alex Pereira may already be looking elsewhere.
