Alex Pereira is back on top of the light heavyweight division, and he already has bold plans for the future.
During UFC 320, Pereira knocked out Magomed Ankalaev in their rematch, reclaiming his championship belt at 205 pounds. While contenders like Carlos Ulberg and middleweight star Khamzat Chimaev have entered the discussion, Pereira’s attention is locked on a different challenge entirely — one that could change UFC history.

Pereira’s Heavyweight Dream Takes Center Stage
For months, Pereira has hinted at moving into the heavyweight division to chase a third world title. No fighter has ever held UFC championships in three separate weight classes, and the 38-year-old believes he can be the first.
Following his latest victory, Pereira shared that he had originally prepared a post-fight speech calling out Jon Jones, the former heavyweight champion. However, after learning of the passing of Arthur Jones, Jon’s brother, he chose to dedicate his words to the family instead.
“With all due respect, with all the respect I have for the situation … I was going to ask for Jon Jones at the White House, but with everything that happened, it’s not the right time to talk about it,” Pereira said.
Although he held back in the Octagon, Pereira didn’t stay silent for long. In interviews backstage, he confirmed the fight he truly wants next.
“Thanks for congratulating me, but all I want is a superfight,” Pereira said at the UFC 320 post-fight press conference. “I want to fight at heavyweight.”
Before losing his belt to Ankalaev earlier this year, Pereira had already teased the idea of chasing another title at heavyweight. Now, with the belt back around his waist, his ambitions are once again in motion.
Rather than challenging the winner of Tom Aspinall vs. Ciryl Gane, Pereira is focused on Jon Jones. Jones briefly retired earlier this year after declining a unification bout with Aspinall, but once the UFC White House card was revealed, he expressed interest in returning for that special event.

Pereira made it absolutely clear that this is the matchup he wants.
“I want a superfight. It would be at the White House against Jon Jones. That’s a superfight.”
Even though Pereira has his sights set on heavyweight glory, the 205-pound division isn’t short of serious competition. On the UFC 320 main card, Jiri Prochazka impressed once again by stopping Khalil Rountree Jr. with a powerful third-round knockout, keeping his name near the top of the contender list.
Meanwhile, Carlos Ulberg seems best positioned for a shot at Pereira’s belt. Riding an impressive nine-fight winning streak, Ulberg has built strong momentum and is widely seen as the most likely next challenger in the division.
The direction Pereira chooses next remains unclear. He’s repeatedly spoken about testing himself at heavyweight, but defending his light heavyweight crown against these rising contenders is still on the table. Fans and analysts are waiting to see whether his next step takes him upward in weight or keeps him ruling the 205-pound landscape.
