- Alex Pereira included Sean Strickland in his training camp for UFC 307
- “Poatan” could face “Tarzan” again if he returns to middleweight
Alex Pereira revealed that he is set to train with Sean Strickland for his upcoming title fight with Khalil Rountree at UFC 307.
Alex brought in Sean
Speaking on his YouTube channel, “Poatan” was excited to let his fans know that he has a great training camp all set up in Salt Lake City for his next fight. What’s even more interesting is that his former middleweight rival “Tarzan” is coming to join the light heavyweight champion’s training camp.
“Today we are here in Salt Lake City, productive day, right Glover?” Pereira said in the video. “Two training [sessions], we trained today at 11 AM and trained for one hour and a half. It’s hard. The altitude. We did it one time here when I fought [Jan] Blachowicz. That was two weeks, now it’s three weeks. I think it will be better timing.”
“We have a good team, Glover [Teixeira], Plinio [Cruz], Yousri [Belgaroui], Cesinha [Cesar Almeida], and Sean Strickland will be here with us next week… The whole crew is here, very happy [and] excited. With all this preparation, for me it’s been very good to do this, come [here] three weeks earlier,” he continued.
Alex and Sean could face again at 185
Pereira and Strickland faced each other in 2022 in which the Brazilian finished “Tarzan” via first-round knockout. The pair didn’t get a chance to run it back as Pereira went on to continue his rivalry with Israel Adesanya and moved up to light heavyweight.
However, Pereira and Strickland could meet again as “Poatan” appears to be serious about returning to 185 to face Dricus du Plessis. But before that, Strickland is likely to get the next title shot in the middleweight division.
It is yet to be known how the middleweight landscape would look like once Pereira returns and Strickland faces Du Plessis. Until then, “Poatan” will be focused on defending his light heavyweight title against Rountree.
