- Alex Pereira still wants to face Dricus du Plessis at 185
- “Poatan” likes to stay in the middleweight division and take on more opponents
Alex Pereira has made it clear once again that he wants to face Dricus Du Plessis at middleweight and would like to take on more top contenders at 185.
Alex just took a break from 185
Pereira appears to be serious about returning to middleweight to face Du Plessis. However, “Stillknocks” already addressed the issue and said he would be moving up to light heavyweight so “Poatan” couldn’t make any excuses about making weight at 185.
Speaking to The Schmo from his training camp in Salt Lake City, Pereira insisted that he would return to middleweight and that’s where he wants his title fight with Du Plessis to happen. Despite what DDP said, the Brazilian pointed out that he just took a break from 185 but now he feels healthy again to compete as a middleweight.
“I would like it to be at middleweight.” Alex Pereira said of his proposed fight with Du Plessis. “I told everybody that I just needed a break from 185, from all those weight cuts, I feel good, I feel healthy right now.”
Alex likes more fights at 185
When asked if he’s only gonna return to middleweight for a one-and-done showdown with Du Plessis, Pereira revealed that he plans to stay there and possibly face more worthy opponents.
“I think I can do more fights [at middleweight],” the reigning light heavyweight champion said.
Pereira is currently training with Sean Strickland for his upcoming title defense against Khalil Rountree at UFC 307. While “Poatan’s” plans are already in place, “Tarzan” pleaded to Pereira to let him be the first to face Du Plessis.
