Aaron Pico got a needed UFC win on April 11 in Miami, beating Patricio Pitbull by unanimous decision at UFC 327 with scores of 30-27, 30-27, and 29-28. The victory closed the prelims and gave Pico a much cleaner night after his rough start to life in the promotion.

Pitbull was the more decorated name coming in, a former Bellator champion with years of top-level experience behind him. Pico needed a controlled three-round win, and he got one. It also landed on the same night as the rest of the UFC 327 fight week build in Miami.

From the opening round, Pico looked like the faster fighter. Pitbull had moments, especially when he touched him with clean shots and made the exchanges competitive early, but Pico’s speed and level changes kept forcing reactions. Even when Pitbull found some success standing, Pico kept changing the picture with takedown attempts and pressure, which helped him keep the fight from settling into a clean kickboxing match.

By the second and third, Pico was getting to his spots quicker and making Pitbull reset. Pitbull still had veteran moments, but he did not have enough offense to stop Pico from controlling more of the fight.

Aaron Pico got the win he needed and Patricio Pitbull looked every bit of 38

Pico fought with more control than people are used to seeing from him. He stayed disciplined, made better decisions across the three rounds, and did not give Pitbull many openings to swing the fight back.

For Pitbull, it is another tough UFC loss. He had enough craft to keep parts of the fight competitive, but not enough activity or speed to keep Pico from taking over the pace.

After the Lerone Murphy loss, Pico needed a steady win over a recognizable opponent. He got that here.
