Bellator Featherweight Champion A.J. McKee gives props to Alex Volkanovski but he doesn’t think “The Great” is the best 145-pounder today.
Volkanovski is the UFC Featherweight Champion. Those who follow MMA closely regardless of promotion will tell you just how good McKee is. Casuals, however, will simply dismiss McKee’s credentials because he doesn’t compete under the UFC banner.
Regardless of how you feel about who is truly the best featherweight today, McKee has made up his mind.
A.J. McKee Thinks He Tops Volkanovski On Featherweight List
During an interview with TMZ Sports, A.J. McKee said that he feels he is easily the best 145-pounder in the world.
“Definitely, hands down. Look at the stats, look at the finishes. He’s great. That’s one thing I will say about UFC fans, them motherf*ckers is loyal to the soil. If you ain’t UFC, they ain’t giving you no props but what they gotta understand is the fighters make the organization, not the organization making the fighters.
“In that case, UFC has made that fighter. He’s done great, he’s earned it, he’s worked his ass off but at the end of the day, 145 pounds I’m the baddest man on the planet and I know that.”
McKee went on to say that Volkanovski is a vertical fighter, which plays right into his hands. He believes he’d finish the UFC Featherweight Champion.
“It’ll look a lot like the Patricio fight. Yes, a finish. Done.”
McKee is set to put his Bellator Featherweight Championship on the line against Patricio “Pitbull” Freire in a rematch. The action goes down on April 15 and will headline Bellator 277.
