ONE Championship put Elbrus Osmanov and Denis Souza Jr. back in each other’s orbit, which is great news for anyone who enjoys bantamweight kickboxers trying to remove each other’s batteries at high speed.
The promotion announced that Osmanov vs. Souza has been rebooked for ONE Fight Night 48 on Friday, October 2, at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok. The fight is a bantamweight kickboxing matchup and lands on the Erdogan vs. Elliott card airing in U.S. primetime on Prime Video.
This was supposed to go down at ONE Fight Night 46 in August before a cut above Osmanov’s eye knocked him out of fight week. Souza stayed on the card, accepted Dmitrii Kovtun as the replacement opponent, and walked away with a unanimous decision instead of just going home mad. That is grown-man business.
The Rebooking Gives Both Strikers A Clean Reset
Osmanov enters the new date with a 15-1 pro record and nine ONE victories split across kickboxing and Muay Thai. His six-fight promotional kickboxing run was stopped by former title challenger Yuki Yoza, but he answered by winning three straight in Muay Thai, including a contract-winning TKO over Ratchasiesan Laochokcharoen at The Inner Circle 12.
Souza is not exactly showing up as a polite rebound assignment. The Brazilian striker is 17-2, carries multiple South American titles on the resume, and already showed he could handle a nasty last-minute switch when Osmanov fell out the first time. His win over Kovtun kept this thing alive and gave him actual momentum instead of a sad airport story.
The matchmaking hook is simple enough. Osmanov needs to reassert himself in kickboxing after the Yoza loss, while Souza gets the original opponent he trained for and a chance to jump from useful newcomer to real bantamweight problem. In a division still orbiting around Jonathan Haggerty’s title scene, that is not small money.
ONE has been stacking its striking lanes hard lately, from Phetjeeja’s injury-shuffled title picture to the constant Lumpinee churn. Osmanov vs. Souza is not the biggest name fight on the calendar, but it has all the ingredients for a mean little firefight if both men make it to October healthy.
