Having won three of his last four inside the Octagon, featherweight standout Nate Landwehr will look to bag another win when he meets Doo Ho Choi at the UFC’s final pay-per-view event of the year next month.
‘The Train’ scored a first-round knockout against Jammall Emmers in his last outing at UFC New Jersey in March. Since then, Landwehr suffered a personal tragedy that no family should ever have to experience. Landwehr and his wife Robyn suffered a miscarriage, losing a daughter they were anxiously awaiting to welcome into the world.
During a MiddleEasy exclusive interview with James Lynch, Landwehr opened up about the tragedy.
“It’s just like a fight, man. You just gotta keep fighting. We had to go through IVF so they’ve got to go in, strip my wife’s, and fertilize them so we ended up with X amount of embryos that were viable. We had five boy embryos and one girl embryo. We tried to put the girl in a little bit ago. She attached, but she didn’t quite make it. Her name was gonna be June Marie. I think about it. All the things that could have been.”
“You start plotting and planning and then God laughs at you like, ‘I got a plan for you,’ and it just wasn’t meant to be.”
Nate Landwehr Plans to Come Out ‘Guns Blazing’ Against Doo Ho Choi
Ready to get back to work, Landwehr has a high-stakes scrap with the South Korean at UFC 310 that has Fight of the Night written all over it. Asked about the hype surrounding their featherweight clash and how he sees things playing out, Landwehr told Lynch:
“Yeah man, you’ve been putting that in the air. I was expecting that kind of (fight) when I was fighting Dan Ige and it didn’t play out. It was a decent fight, but that’s kind of one of my biggest regrets in the UFC since I’ve been there so far. I can accept getting knocked out by Herbert Burns, but it weighs on me. It should’ve been kill or killed in that last round (against Ige). Every fight I’ve been in has been a bonus except that fight.
He continued, “I’m gonna try to protect myself this time, but I’m just gonna come out guns blazing — swinging and we’re gonna see what happens.”
Under the UFC banner, Landwehr is 5-3 with three of his victories coming inside the distance.
