Curtis Blaydes isn’t getting his hopes up when it comes to cutting the line at heavyweight.
The heavyweight throne remains at a standstill with the champ Francis Ngannou on the sidelines. Ngannou’s return will have to wait as he is recovering from injuries.
It may be a while until see Ngannou back in action, but contenders are still trying to claw their way to the top. A key heavyweight matchup lies between Blaydes and rising star Tom Aspinall.
Blaydes Isn’t Planning On A Title Fight Anytime Soon
While the fight is a high-stakes main event, Blaydes doesn’t seem too confident that either man will get a title shot with a win here.
“Imma be honest, probably not,” Blaydes told Middle Easy. “Even if I’ll come out with a flying elbow or whatever.”
Blaydes Eyes Another Fight
Instead of getting a title shot, Blaydes believes he could get the winner of another big heavyweight matchup.
“I’ll most likely end up getting the winner of Tuivasa and Ciryl Gane. That’s just how it is.”
Blaydes Thinks Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic Will Happen
Why does ‘Razor’ think he won’t get a title shot? Well, an interim title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic is currently being discussed in Ngannou’s absence.
While the fight of former champs is still far from being made, Blaydes believes it will happen. And he has no problem with ‘Bones’ and Miocic hashing it out for the interim title.
“I think it happens,” Blaydes said of a potential fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. “I think that fight happens and then the winner of me vs. Aspinall gets the winner Tuivasa and Ciryl Gane.
“The winner of Jon and Stipe gets to hang out, obviously they got the interim belt, they get to wait. Maybe it will be up to them on who they want to fight next… I do believe that fight is going to happen.”
