Pokemon Red and Blue were a huge part of my childhood, and likely yours as well. If it wasn’t part of your childhood, then you’re probably going to grow up to be the next Charles Manson, and maybe that’s fine. It’s hard to say. I don’t really know Charles Manson and I try not to judge people based on what other people tell me about them.
Another huge part of my childhood was watching cartoons created by Mike Judge, specifically Beavis and Butthead, but King of the Hill was definitely “in the mix”. As we enter a time of government shutdowns, intense sequesters and illuminati mind control, it’s become apparent that King of the Hill’s Dale Gribble was right on the money with all of his crazy government conspiracy talk. If King of the Hill had just started airing now, Dale would probably be judged in a much different light than he was when the show started in the late 90’s. My guess is that he would have ended up being the Tea Party’s mascot and would’ve ushered them into an era of true enlightenment. Unfortunately this didn’t happen, and most people associated with the Tea Party are xenophobic nutbags.
While there may not be any Dale Gribble in this new King of the Hill and Pokemon mash-up, it’s still pretty amazing. The compassion Hank Hill shows for his Butterfree brings me back to a time when all I cared about was getting my Squirtle to level 100 without evolving, and that makes me all warm and fuzzy inside.
