Steam Summer Sale Breakdown: What to buy: Day one!

Ah yes, the reports were true! Today is the Steam Summer Sale. That means that I’ve already dropped a good deal of money on games that I’ve been holding off on since the fall, waiting for the prices to drop. The best part is that it happens during the slow summer months where new games are rather sparse. While the Summer Sale has been going for most of the afternoon already, we are here to bring you up to speed on what to expect from the Steam Summer Sale on day one.

So here are the deals available for the first day and if you should be dropping your money on this or not.

BioShock Infinite – 50% Off – $29.99

50% off of BioShock Infinite seems like a great deal. Actually, with a coupon code you can get it for a little bit cheaper from Green Man Gaming right now, but no matter what, this is a good price for a newer game. I picked it up, as I’ve been holding off on playing it until the price dropped. The price DROPPED.Dave
Yeah, but you need to buy the original Bioshock (skip Bioshock 2) to fully enjoy Bioshock Infinite, and I know you haven’t played it, sweet David. So let’s call this a $35 investment. Very worth it.Jason

Left 4 Dead 2 – 75% Off – $4.99

I really don’t like zombie games and the first game was pretty fun, but I just totally neglected this one. If you are into these games and don’t have it, well, $5 is a pretty decent deal. Just hope that you have some friends to play with you.Dave
With all of the Steam Workshop implementation, the game continues to live strong, like an undead cancer patient.Jason

Endless Space: Emperor Edition – 66% Off – $10.19

This is a scifi/space 4X turn-based strategy game which I don’t own yet, but my finger is hovering over the “buy” button. I love 4X games and I love scifi.Dave
I was talking to Dave about buying this, and then I realized I already own it, and just haven’t played it. This is what Steam does to you, people. It’s pretty fun, but nothing spectacular.Jason

Antichamber – 66% Off – $6.79

I dunno. It looks kind of like a more frustrating version of Portal, which could be cool. I say pass and spend your money on other things, but if you are into this, people seem to dig it.Dave
Everyone I know and trust is telling me to pick up Antichamber, so I guess I will.Jason

Don’t Starve – 40% Off – $8.99

Supposed to be pretty good, but I still think that $8.99 is a bit much for it. Pass.Dave
It looks cool, but yeah, at $8.99 I have to agree with Dave — I’m here for the extremely sexy sales or nothing.Jason

Toki Tori 2+ – 34% Off – $9.89

Read above. It is described as a “Metroidvania” platformer, which at this point, I just don’t find appetizing for almost $10, but that’s just me.Dave
Exactly, Dave. Exactly.Jason

Scribblenauts Unlimited – 75% Off – $4.99

Ugh. Buy, buy, buy. The Scribblenauts games are amazing for what they are and super fun. I don’t care if you think that it’s for kids, it is just a fun game and that is that.Dave
The large Hadron Collider and Black Hole break the game, but yeah, for $4.99 you really can’t go wrong. This one is good for humans of all ages, races and creeds too. Except for the stupid ones. Stupid people won’t like this game.Jason

Defiance – 66% Off – $13.59

I dunno. I watch the series and the game is supposed to be alright, but at this point there are quite a few MMO shooters on the market and unless you are a super fan of the show, it seems like you could pass. PlanetSide 2 is free and polished.Dave
I’ve heard not great things. I’m a sucker for MMOs, but I’m going to hope Interstellar Marines goes on sale.Jason

Hotline Miami – 75% Off – $2.49

Haha, you don’t even have to think about this one. It’s under $3. I’ve still barely played it since I picked it up a while ago, but it is really fun and kind of crazy for the price. It’s worth the money to just try it out and see what everyone is talking about.Dave
If you have to spend less than three dollars on anything today, make it Hotline Miami. I famously described it as an 8-bit puzzle/action title that would Leave Mickey and Mallory in front of their TV set and off the streets. OK, that wasn’t famous, but maybe if I repeat it enough…Jason

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger – 33% Off – $10.04

I feel like this is a game that I’ll play eventually, but when I can get it for like $3 and just d**k around in it.Dave
NoJason

Don’t forget that there are Flash Deals every 8 hours and that there are a ton of games on sale throughout Steam and on sale until the 22nd.
