Celebrate the 4th of July with four days of Red Dead Redemption triple XP

Rockstar is offering up triple XP for the next four days in Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption. That’s right, four days. Not a triple XP weekend, or even a three day weekend. Four glorious days of the debauchery and mayhem that is Red Dead Redemption’s online free roam. Let’s be honest, as infuriating as it is to be killed when you’re just trying to hang out in MacFarland’s Ranch, it’s hard to resist the urge to be “that guy” during these events. I mean for 30 XP a pop after you unlock the high powered pistol? It’s just too easy. Sure, you probably shouldn’t succumb to the anarchy, but in my experience every time that I’ve gone the George Lucas re-editing route and not shot first it usually doesn’t work out too well for me. Then again, you could always just clear gang hideouts with your buddies and get a crazy amount of XP before they betray you and shoot you in the head because they’re still pissed about you blowing up their horse (cough, Dave Walsh, cough).

Now, as a special gift for the 4th of July/MiddleEasy relaunch I am going to share a trick with you that I will call “Jason and Jonesy’s Secret to Massive XP.” Maybe some of you already know it, maybe you don’t. Maybe you haven’t made it this far because you’re mad about me writing about video games. But anyway, secret or not it’s something that we figured out a few triple XP events ago and it would be criminal not to share. If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to get XP so you can finally get that bull, or maybe just stop riding that burro everywhere, and you have the Undead Nightmare Pack (which you should anyway because it’s great) then “Undead Overrun” is the key. It’s your typical, straightforward horde mode. You and up to three other players (look at that, I brought it back to the “4” motif) take on wave after wave (after wave, after wave, after wave) of zombies. It’s mindlessly violent, and fun. The trick to utiziling it to get the most XP? It caps just like the other co-op missions where you get either a bronze, silver or gold ranking. If you can rack up a total team score of $25,000 (which is almost assured if you make it past Wave 8) then you’ll earn gold, which will get you 1000 XP. Now, since it’s triple XP weekend apply simple multiplcation and boom! 3000 XP just for mindlessly mowing down the malicious marauders. So, the Jason and Jonesy method is simple – get some friends (or play with random people on the internet), play “Undead Overrun” until you complete wave 8, and then let your characters die. No matter how many waves you complete you are never going to get more than 3000 XP. So if you feel like grinding for XP I’ll say it again. Undead Overrun. Wave 8. Die.

Now go celebrate our nations independence by playing one of the greatest games that this country has ever produced.
