Justin Gaethje Has Harsh Words Following Khabib’s Recent Comments
Justin Gaethje is coming off of a big knockout victory over Edson Barboza. After that fight he called out Khabib Nurmagomedov, and he is still looking for that fight.
Gaethje is riding a two fight win streak, following his UFC Philadelphia victory. Since that bout, he has called out both the current champ Khabib Nurmagomedov, and former champ Conor McGregor. Allegedly, a bout was even offered to McGregor.
Following his call out of Khabib, Justin Gaethje dealt with some push-back. Khabib’s coach went as far as to say that Gaethje has little chance of beating “The Eagle.” Recently however, Khabib himself said that he would “dominate” Gaethje with wrestling, if they were to fight.
Justin Gaethje disagreed with Khabib’s sentiment. The NCAA Division I All-American went on the MMA Hour to discuss his chances against Khabib.
“I think my wrestling credentials alone would benefit me so much in that fight. my ability to stop the takedown. And I’m very confident in my stand-up. I’m confident in my coach and the gameplan that we would come together with and go out there and execute. I think with my athletic ability I’m a tough out for anybody.”
Gaethje went on to talk his gameplan to stuff takedowns and knock Khabib out. He then addressed the comments made by Khabib.
“I’m not saying I could beat him in a wrestling match, but a wrestling match is what I did my whole life. He’s not going to go out there and dominate me in a wrestling match.”
Justin’s belief is that if he can keep his cardio strong and create scrambles he can win.
However, Justin Gaethje will have to wait, as the likely top contender is the new Interim Lightweight Champion Dustin Poirier.
