It’s no secret at MiddleEasy we live and breathe combat – so much so that I regularly physical assault people. That deeply primal instinct lives within me. I’ve watched boxing since I was a kid. I’ve trained BILLIONS of types of martial arts (and I’m shit at all of them). I love fighting games. I obsess over documentaries. And of course I watch films. Fighting films.
Jake Gyllenhaal like myself is a man. However where we differ is he happens to be a very talented man, that more often than not is proving his acting acumen to be tippity top notch. This guy has been in some hella good films. Donnie Darko, Zodiac, Prisoners, End of Watch, Nightcrawler and of course Bubble Boy.
Jake’s had enough of not repeatedly punching people in the face, and decided for his next trick he’d play a boxer in the film Southpaw. Hollywood will be doing something brand new here, in that it’s most probably a struggling boxer drama film. Fights his way to the top, with a whole load of personal shit going on in the background. Amazing eh? Irrespective of that, the cast is pretty rad. Rachel McAdams, Forrest Whittaker, Naomie Harris, 50 Cent, Tyrese Gibson and Victor Ortiz all set to star.
This is the first image from the film, which doesn’t even have a release date yet. Let’s tentatively say Winter 2015. It seems like that kind of movie. Look at him, he’s a menace. I’ve got a feeling about this one, it’s going to be The Fighter good, isn’t it?
