Celebrated actor Tom Hardy continued his journey into the world of Brazilian jiu-jitsu by earning another gold medal in a recent UK tournament.
Jiu-jitsu has exploded in the last few years with celebrities far and wide giving the sport a try, but Tom Hardy is undoubtedly the most active of the bunch. The Mad Max: Fury Road star made waves in 2022 by actively competing, and winning in multiple tournaments as a blue belt. Hardy has shown no signs of slowing down in 2023, continuing to compete at a frequent pace and bagging more medals along the way.
But Hardy’s accomplishments in jiu-jitsu are not just for his own self-gratification. Hardy is also working as an ambassador for the veteran’s BJJ charity Reorg and has been actively sporting their gear in competition. His most recent victory came at a tournament organized by a charitable organization.
Hardy, along with his wife Charlotte Riley, have a long history of philanthropy. In 2010, the pair became ambassadors for Prince’s Trust, a UK youth charity providing training, personal development, business start-up support, and mentoring.
Tom DeBlass, a BJJ practitioner who has competed for both Bellator MMA and the UFC, shared an image on Instagram of Hardy winning a 2023 competition. The Venom star even commented on the post, displaying his humbleness and his appreciation for the opportunity to represent Reorg.
“That man Mihail Secara is very strong with a huge and kind heart much respect to him I got humbled a lot today, Hardy replied. “Won and lost. I also had an amazing time too with my team @reorgcharity.”

Tom Hardy has brought a significant amount of attention to the sport, but he’s not the only celebrity out there testing himself in tournaments. Recently, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg was spotted competing in a tournament of his own. The Meta CEO has been seen in multiple videos over the last year training in BJJ and mixed martial arts, but news of his first tournament appearance made headlines as it was reported that ‘The Zuck’ lost consciousness in one of his earlier contests.
Zuckerberg went on to dispute the claim, suggesting that the snoring heard by the presiding referee was nothing more than “effortful grunting.” Regardless, Zuckerberg went on to win a gold and silver medal in the tournament, bringing even more attention to the combat sports art form.
