Mikey Musumeci and Gordon Ryan, two big names in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, had a big argument online. They started talking about something that many people in combat sports talk about a lot, performance-enhancing drugs, or PEDs.
Mikey Musumeci, who is super good at grappling, joined the UFC, which made a lot of people talk. He thinks the UFC will help make things more fair and clean in sports, especially when it comes to PEDs. Mikey wants everyone to play by the rules and says that joining the UFC will help make that happen. But not everyone agrees, and that’s why Mikey and Gordon Ryan didn’t see eye to eye.
“There’s a lot of horrible ethics, morals, and I hope now that with the UFC we can change that and make it a professional sport. Because it hasn’t been a professional sport, jiu-jitsu, with people they blatantly use [steroids]. They’re not athletes. They really don’t have the values of martial artists.” Mikey Musumeci said via UFC Fight Pass invitational presser.
Gordon Ryan went on Instagram and said some stuff about Mikey Musumeci. He didn’t think Mikey was acting happy or confident. Ryan thought Mikey might be nervous about losing important competitions, like the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC), and that’s why he was always looking so serious.
“Get of your moral high ground, dork. This guys is talking about cheating. Steroids are legal in every competition minus specific IBJJF competitions since 2019. It’s not cheating. All I hear is an excuse for why you could never do what others, specifically I have done” Gordon Ryan said via Instagram.
Mikey Musumeci is now part of the UFC, which means we might see him teaming up with even more famous fighters in jiu-jitsu. His first big fight was against Felipe Machado, and Mikey showed his skills by winning with a lot of points at UFC Fight Pass Invitational 9. It looks like this is just the beginning for his UFC journey.
Gordon Ryan Shares the Real Story Behind His Conflict with Mikey Musumeci
Mikey Musumeci and Gordon Ryan are both big stars in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but they don’t like each other. Gordon, known for being amazing in no-gi grappling, has had problems with a lot of people before, so it’s not surprising that he doesn’t get along with Mikey. Mikey is usually more calm and polite compared to Gordon.
Even though they are very different in size, with Mikey being much lighter than Gordon, their rivalry goes beyond just fighting each other. Mikey has called out Gordon before, accusing him of using steroids, but Gordon doesn’t seem to mind and keeps on doing his own thing.
“Mikey just attacked me. The only thing I’ve ever done is talk highly of Mikey. The thing about Mikey is Mikey will be like, ‘If you do steroids …’ Mikey has been taking passive-aggressive shots at me forever…” Gordon Ryan said on Fight Back Podcast.
Mikey Musumeci is facing a tough time after he couldn’t make weight for his big fight and had to give up his One Championship Flyweight grappling title. Trying to lose so much weight in such a short time made him really sick, and he ended up in the hospital.
On the other hand, Gordon Ryan has been doing great, winning his super fight at the Abu Dhabi Combat Club (ADCC) event in August. But because of some health problems, it’s still unclear when he’ll fight next.
