- Deontay Wilder knocked Robert Helenius out in round 1
- “Bronze Bomber” name-dropped two potential next opponents
Undeniably, Deontay Wilder has proven that he’s still a dangerous fighter after he viciously knocked Robert Helenius with a devastating right hook. Wilder needed only one round to get back to his winning ways and send a powerful message in his ring return.
Never chase Deontay
Wilder and Helenius used to be sparring partners in the past but all that was put aside when they stepped inside the ring at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn Saturday. Wilder didn’t start out blazing in the opening round as it was Helenius who was being the aggressor early in the fight. However, “The Nordic Nightmare” learned the hard way that he shouldn’t have chased “Bronze Bomber.”
After going after Wilder for almost the entire round, Helenius finally got caught with a nasty right hook counterpunch that saw him quickly hitting the mat by his back. Wilder was then declared winner via KO in their WBC heavyweight title eliminator bout.

Back in the win column
The victory over Helenius saw Wilder getting back to the win column as he now improved his record to 43-2-1. It was a great way to bounce back after getting knocked out by his ultimate rival Tyson Fury in their epic trilogy bout back in October.
As expected, Wilder set his sights on the bigger fish, calling for a shot at unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk or a showdown with Andy Ruiz, who previously outmatched Luis Ortiz.
It is yet to be determined what’s next for Wilder but with a huge win like that, he is likely to be rewarded with a big fight.
